John Connors takes over as head coach at Pittston Area where he will try to lead the Lady Patriots to a repeat of last season’s winning record and District 2-4 Class 3A Subregional girls tennis tournament appearance.

“Last year’s team posted an excellent record,” said Connors, who has played the sport since he was a teenager and spent one season as an assistant boys coach at the school. “We anticipate this team following in their footsteps with a very strong season.”

Abby Connors (no relation to the coach) is back at first singles from a team that went 8-5. She won her opening round subregional singles match last season.

Madison Stanton returns after being part of an opening round subregional win in doubles.

Coach Connors said seniors Stanton, Charity McCloud and Kerry Shamnoski “should provide experience and depth for the rest of the team.”

The coach said he expects Abby Connors to be a district contender.

Kaityln Connors, John’s daughter, Emily Kraser and Julia Zambetti are expected to fill out the starting lineup.

Seniors Amy Farthing and Jonquil Throop are other potential contributors.
