FORTY FORT – The Wyoming Area girls celebrated Senior Day by winning two of three meets, losing only to Lake-Lehman, which brought an unbeaten record into Wednesday’s Wyoming Valley Conference finale at the Luzerne County Rec Field.

Wyoming Area finished 9-7 with three of the losses coming by forfeits on days when it did not have the required five runners for a team score. It won twice Wednesday using just five runners.

The Lady Warriors finished up by defeating Wyoming Valley West, 26-29, while picking up a 15-50 forfeit win over Tunkhannock and losing to Lake-Lehman, 15-49.

Aubrianna Marranca finished 18th out of 42 runners in the six-team meet, completing the 3.1-mile course in 21:38.

Pittston Area 2-1

Pittston Area wrapped up a 14-4 season by winning two out of three meets Wednesday at Kirby Park.

Nicole Zambetti finished second in the six-team cluster meet while helping the Lady Patriots defeat Hanover Area, 27-29, and Meyers, 25-50. Holy Redeemer defeated Pittston Area, 19-36.

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Pittston Area 1-2

Pittston Area defeated Meyers, 15-50, but lost to Hanover Area, 23-33, and Holy Redeemer, 15-50, Wednesday at Kirby Park.

Nate Ridgley was 10th in the six-team meet to lead the Patriots, who used the win to finish at .500 with a 9-9 WVC record.

Wyoming Area 0-3

Wyoming Area lost all three meets in the season finale on its home course Wednesday.

The Warriors fell to Lake-Lehman (20-41), Wyoming Valley West (19-42) and Tunkhannock (19-42). They finished 5-13.

MMI Prep 1

Syra Reza had eight kills, Portia Wiedlich seven and Emily O’Brien five Thursday in Pittston Area’s 23-25, 25-20, 25-16, 25-20 victory.

O’Brien also had 24 assists and seven aces.

Coughlin 0

Emily O’Brien had 14 service points, including seven aces, and 17 assists Wednesday when Pittston Area swept Coughlin, 25-7, 25-16, 25-12.

Emma Coles added six kills and Scarlet Alexander had four aces.

Berwick 0

Wyoming Area posted a 25-14, 25-20, 25-22 sweep Wednesday with the help of five kills, five blocks and three aces from Brandi Sorokin.

Olivia Astolfi had five kills and four aces. Jenna Chackan contributed 11 assists.

Abie Sorokas scored two goals, including one in overtime, Wednesday to lift Coughlin over visiting Wyoming Area.

Lauren Parente scored to give the Lady Warriors a 1-0 halftime lead.

Kari Melberger’s goal with four seconds left Monday helped Wyoming Area pull out a win and bounce back from a 6-0 loss to Wyoming Valley West in its previous outing Oct. 5.

The Lady Warriors led 2-0 at halftime on goals by Lauren Parente and Kayla Kiwak before Abington Heights rallied to tie.

Hannah Yanovich had two goals and two assists to lead Dallas to Monday’s road win.

Bailey Jordan scored with seven seconds left on an assist from Hannah Robbins to break the shutout.

Aleah Kranson and Erica Gallagher each had hat tricks in Thursday’s win.

Kranson had two of her goals and two of her three assists when the Lady Warriors opened a 6-0 halftime lead.

Aleah Kranson, who had three assists, and Christina Kosko each scored three goals in Tuesday’s rout.

The Lady Warriors got back on a winning track by opening an 8-0 lead at halftime.

Erica Gallagher had two goals and an assist while Tierney Porfirio had a goal and two assists.

Wyoming Area had lost its previous game, 3-2, to Berwick Oct. 6 in a battle for second place in WVC Division 2.

Kennadi Josefowicz scored three goals and assisted on one Monday for Valley West.

Pittston Area played to a tie on the road Wednesday.

The Patriots remained in sixth place out of eight teams in WVC Division 1 with a 2-9-1 record.
