The New Year has been good to Mia Hopkins and the West Chester University women’s basketball team.

The Golden Rams won four games in eight days to start 2018, with Hopkins scoring at least 16 points in each game as they extended their winning streak to five games and improved their records to 7-3 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference and 10-4 overall.

Hopkins continues to rank among the PSAC’s most productive players.

The 5-foot-11 senior from Pittston Area played at Bloomsburg two years ago and Division I Monmouth three years ago.

Hopkins ranks third in the PSAC in field goal percentage (51.0) and fourth in rebounds (9.0 per game) and assists (3.9).

West Chester opened the New Year with a 76-69 win at Millersville Jan. 3 with the help of 22 points from Hopkins, on 8-for-11 shooting.

She followed with 19 points, nine rebounds, six assists and the first of three straight three-steal efforts in a 91-73 win over visiting Mansfield Jan. 6; 16 points in a visit to her old school Monday for a 74-63 win over Bloomsburg; and 17 points in 27 minutes of a 77-62 win over Cheyney.

In the four games, Hopkins hit 25 of 42 shots (59.5 percent) from the floor, along with 19 of 21 (90.5 percent) from the line.

Hopkins has started all 14 games and produced five double-doubles. She is averaging 14.7 points and 1.9 steals while shooting 35.1 percent from 3-point range and 71.4 percent from the line.
