Michael Garzella new superintendent at Pittston Area

Pittston Area School Board Appointed Michael Garzella the next superintendent of the district by a 5-4 vote

Garzella is the former superintendent at Wyoming Valley West School District and is a graduate school teacher at Wilkes Univerity.

Garzella will serve as substitute superintendent until Aug. 27 at $480 a day, five days a week. He will take the full post after that, pending a written agreement of terms.

Garzella will replace George Cosgrove, who is retiring and is using unused vacation days until his official retirement. Assistant Superintendent John Lussi, who presided over the meeting tonight in the superintendent's seat, also announced his retirement
