Spartans‚?? second quarter leads to rout

EXETER – Wyoming Valley West used a 26-point second quarter to run away from Wyoming Area for a 71-44 win in the opening round of the Schifano Boys Basketball Tournament on Thursday.


Evan McCue sank four of the Spartans' eight three-point shots on his way to a team-leading 13 points. Chris McCue scored 11 for the winners while Jamie Calloway chipped in 10.

The Blue Devils used a 26-point second quarter to take control and advance to the title game in the Schifano Tournament at Wyoming Area High School.


Jimmie Aversa and Jake Manetti scored 15 points each for Old Forge.


Matt Ross netted 13 and Allen Fell scored 10 for Dallas.

Mike Boutanos scored seven of his 12 points in the fourth quarter as Holy Redeemer pulled away to win in the opening round of the McGrane Tournament at the Wilkes-Barre CYC.


Shachel Wallace led Redeemer (1-6) with 19 points. Adam Dizbon poured in 22 for Lake-Lehman (3-3).

GAR utilized a 13-2 second quarter to gain enough distance from Springfield for a win in the opening round of the Allen Tournament held in Allentown.


GAR's Isaiah Francis led all scorers with 25 points while Christian Skrepenak added 10. The victory was the Grenadiers' first of the season.
