EXETER — The Wyoming Area boys basketball team is no stranger to honoring one of its loved ones. Throughout the season, the team wears T-shirts and socks in remembrance of one of their own.

On Tuesday, Dec. 22, Wyoming Area hosted Crestwood in the Eric J. Speicher Memorial Game. All proceeds from the game were donated to Little Eric’s Foundation, a non-profit foundation created in Speicher’s honor. The foundation raises money for childhood and pediatric brain cancer research.

There was a ceremony prior to the tip on Tuesday. Speicher is the son of Eric and Jessica Speicher, West Pittston.

Eric was the team manager for the Warriors. In June 2011, after two weeks of unexplained headaches and nausea, an MRI revealed a mass in Eric’s brain. His first surgery was five days later. After his surgery, it was revealed that he had grade 3 brain cancer. Eric would radiation therapy through the next several months.

Following the radiation, Eric was back to normal. However, in April 2012, a routine MRI revealed a recurrence of the disease. On Dec. 23, 2013, Eric died at the age of 14.
