Pittston Area’s Lexi Felinski had one of the best freshman softball seasons in recent Wyoming Valley Conference memory. The second baseman was awarded for her performance recently.

Felinski was named to the Pennsylvania High School Softball Association all-state second team for Class AAA players. Felinski was one of six Wyoming Valley Conference players to be selected to either the first or second teams. In all, 25 conference players were selected as part of the 388-player field.

Felinski was the Patriots leadoff hitter during their run to a Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association District 2 Class AAA silver medal. She finished the season hitting .519 with a .540 on-base percentage. She finished the season with three home runs and 15 RBI. Her 10 doubles led the team, as did her 41 hits.

The freshman had a hit in every single conference game and started the season with a hit in the first 16 games. Felinski put herself on the Wyoming Valley Conference map by going 9-for-10 with three RBI and eight runs scored in Pittston Area’s first two contests. She had two errors all season at second base.

A handful of Patriots were named honorable mention.

Pitcher Taylor Baloga (1.60 ERA, .418 average, 24 RBI), third baseman Abbey Bradigan (.324 average, 13 RBI), first baseman Nina Cencetti (3.35 ERA in 33.2 innings, .328 average) and outfielders Alexa McHugh (.380 average, 19 runs) and Mindina Lieback (.384 average, 21 RBI) were named honorable mention.

Wyoming Area pitcher Gwen Glatz was also named honorable mention. She finished her sophomore season with a 1.64 ERA and 12 wins. She held her opponents to a .176 average.

The teams, divided into first, second and honorable mention, are determined for each class by the Pennsylvania High School Softball Association. More than 220 high school coaches and 160 sportswriters were part of the process.
