Sean Petrosky threw a no-hitter and West Pittston won its final two Pool B games in the Pennsylvania District 31 Little League Baseball Major Division, but fell short of advancing into elimination play.

Petrosky struck out 14 during his no-hitter and also hit a home run in the 7-0 victory over Harveys Lake June 30.

West Pittston then defeated West Side, 14-4, July 2 to conclude pool play.

Matt Stepanski also had a home run against Harveys Lake. Jake Byers added two hits.

Richie Kashuba homered against West Side.

Matt Rusinchak, Jake Byers and Thomas Cherbinitski had two hits each.

Henry Rosan pitched four innings for the win.

Wyoming/West Wyoming also ended with a win, beating Swoyersville, 11-8, July 2.

Aaron Yelland struck out eight.

Exeter defeated Wyoming/West Wyoming, 5-0, June 30 when Casey Noone pitched a two-hitter with nine strikeouts.

Nico Sciandra had a double and scored twice.

Noone had the team’s only hit when Exeter was shut out by district finalist Kingston/Forty Fort, 10-0, in its final game.

DISTRICT 16 MAJOR BASEBALL

Duryea and Jenkins Township each lost their final two games.

After losing 3-2 to pool winner Pittston Township June 30, Duryea fell, 13-3, in five innings to South Wilkes-Barre July 2.

Nicholas Cerasaro had a triple and Mickey O’Malley added a double in the finale.

Jenkins Township lost 12-1 to Plains and 12-2 to Mountain Top.

Jack Long and Dean Horensky had the only hits against Plains, which is headed for the district final against Pittston Township.

Lock Messner had the only hit in the loss to Mountain Top.

DISTRICT 16 JUNIOR BASEBALL

Hanover defeated Pittston Township, 4-2, Thursday when the six-team, double-elimination tournament got underway.

David Behm had two hits and Matt Cocco doubled for Pittston Township.

DISTRICT 16 10-11 BASEBALL

Plains was the only team to go 2-0 through the first two games of three in Pool A, which was scheduled to conclude Saturday.

Patrick Bohan and Alex Macaluso homered for Pittston Township in Thursday’s 19-14 win over Pittston City.

Luke Snyder was the winning pitcher.

Jeff Mazonis and Mike Giamber each had two hits for Pittston City.

Mazonis was 5-for-5 with seven RBI, three of them coming on a home run, when Pittston City won its opener, 18-9, over Avoca/Dupont.

Silvio Giardina also went 5-for-5.

Jimmy Noone and Aiden O’Haire added three hits each while Matt Walter had two.

Ciaran Bilbow had two hits and Nick Franchetti added a double for Avoca/Dupont.

Plains shut out Avoca/Dupont, 16-0, in four innings Thursday.

Franchetti and Bilbow had Avoca/Dupont’s hits.

Plains opened with an 11-1, four-inning win over Pittston Township.

Bohan singled and drove in the only Pittston Township run.

DISTRICT 16 8-10 BASEBALL

Chase Montigney drove in five runs and Dominic Salvo drove in three Thursday to lead Duryea to a 13-6 semifinal victory over Nanticoke.

Duryea advanced to play against Plains at Swoyersville in the district championship game, which was scheduled for Saturday.

Montigney and Salvo each had two hits. Paul Rusincovitch scored three times.

T.J. Johnson was the winning pitcher.

Duryea advanced by shutting out Pittston City, 17-0, Monday in the final Pool A game when Johnson, Rusincovitch and Hayden Heppding combined on an 11-strikeout, no-hitter.

Johnson started and got all six of his outs on strikeouts.

Montigney drove in four runs and Dominic Innamorti scored three times for Duryea.

Mountain Top defeated Duryea, 11-1, July 1.

Innamorti and Montigney had hits for Duryea.

Jenkins Township won its last two games, routing North Wilkes-Barre in four innings, then beating Hanover, 11-1, in five innings Monday.

Jake Aftewicz threw four shutout innings against Hanover.

Drew Cisney had three hits, including a triple, to lead the offense.

Brycen Martin, Connor Cawley and Ethan Aftewicz had doubles.

Pittston Township defeated South Wilkes-Barre, 21-3, in four innings July 1 before falling to Mountain Top, 16-6, Monday.

Elijah Barr had three hits against South Wilkes-Barre while Brennen Callahan and Luciano Pugliese had two each.

Barr, who had a triple, and Pugliese each had two hits in the loss to Mountain Top.

DISTRICT 31 8-10 BASEBALL

Exeter and Wyoming/West Wyoming each lost their final two games of pool play and were eliminated.

Exeter fell 16-2 in four innings to Kingston/Forty Fort and 13-3 in five innings to Back Mountain American.

Jake Snyder had three hits in the loss to BMA while Alex Vacula added two.

Wyoming/West Wyoming lost 15-2 to Swoyersville and 21-3 to Back Mountain National.

SECTION 5 JUNIOR SOFTBALL

Kylie Herbert struck out 10 and did not allow an earned run Thursday while leading Pittston Area past Old Forge, 4-2, to earn the team a title shot where it fell to host Kingston/Forty Fort, 5-2, the next night.

Thursday’s win put Pittston Area in position where it had to win two straight over unbeaten Kingston/Forty Fort in order to win the title of the three-team, double-elimination tournament.

Pittston Area twice defeated Old Forge in the tournament, only to fall to Kingston/Forty Fort, 5-2, each time. It opened the tournament with a 17-7 win.

Gwen Balavage had two hits in the elimination bracket final win Thursday.

Bea Lieback had four hits and Grace Giardina added three in the first Pittston Area win.

SECTION 5 MAJOR SOFTBALL

Pittston Area won its tournament opener, 11-1, over North Pocono Tuesday, then lost the next two days and was eliminated.

Archbald defeated Pittston Area, 9-5, in the winners’ bracket final of the four-team, double-elimination tournament. North Pocono then won the rematch, 4-1, in an elimination game.
