Blessing of the Harvest Wreath ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. Live music will be performed by Joe Lastovica and the Polka Punch Band from 3 to 6 p.m. There will be a variety of ethnic homemade foods including pierogi, potato pancakes, golabki (piggies), kielbasa, soups and funnel cakes, as well as American foods like hot dogs and burgers. Homemade baked goods will be for sale. There will also be a Country Store with fresh vegetables and fruits open all day long. The Oblate of St. Joseph Fathers will hold the annual Triduum and Feast of St. Joseph the Worker. The Triduum (three days of prayers) will be held on Aug. 29-31 at the Oblates of St. Joseph Chapel with a Mass at 7 p.m., followed by special prayers to St. Joseph for workers and the unemployed. Confessions and the Holy Rosary will precede the Mass. Preaching this year’s Triduum will be the permanent deacon Florian Gyza from St. Faustina Parish, Nanticoke.

The Feast will be celebrated on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 1 with a Solemn Mass at 11 a.m. Serving as celebrant and homilist will be Bishop John M. Dougherty, D.D. auxiliary Bishop Emeritus of Scranton. Concelebrants will be the local Oblate Fathers. St. Joseph’s Bread will be blessed and distributed following the Mass as a “symbol of the fruit of our labor”.

The special intentions for the triduum celebration include: workers’ thanksgiving, the unemployed and special blessings for students, teachers and administrators as they are entering a new school year. Everyone is invited to attend.

Thursday, First Thursday of the month, Holy Hour for Vocations to the Priesthood and Religious Life will be at 7 p.m. Come and join in prayer to ask the Lord to send young and less young people to serve the Holy Church in the Priesthood and in the Religious Life.

Friday, First Friday of the month, Mass will be at 7 and 11 a.m. with devotion prayers to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. At 8 p.m. the Blue Army Vigil to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary will be held. Holy Hour and confessions will be at 8 p.m. and a special Holy Mass will be at 9 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

Scripture Study

Father Maloney will lead a Scripture Study beginning on Tuesday, Sept. 9. There will be two programs, one from 8:30 to 10 a.m. on Tuesday mornings and another from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday evenings. Both sessions will be held in the parish hall. The title of this study will be “The Book of Wisdom.” There will be five sessions.
