A pair of Pittston Area wrestlers came away with respective titles last weekend at the 2013 Conestoga Valley Holiday Classic wrestling tournament.

Senior Tyler Lutecki, wrestling at 126 pounds, beat Marple Newton’s Pat Callagan 8-6 in the championship bout. In his first bout, Lutecki earned a pin just 1:08 in. He went on to garner a pair of close decisions before finishing off the title.

Pittston Area senior Kevin Wesolowski, wrestling at 170, took a major decision over Penncrest’s Joe Pyfer in the finals. Wesolowski picked up a fall in his first bout, then earned a technical fall, 20-2, in his second. After a 5-2 win over Owen J. Roberts’ Nick Duliakas, he took the title.

In the 220 tournament, Pittston Area’s Jake Vaxmonsky took fourth. Pittston Area came in 16th out of 25 teams. Spring Grove won the team championship.

WRESTLING

Tunkhannock Kiwanis

Tournament

Wyoming Area came in 12th place out of 26 teams at the Kiwanis Tournament last weekend in Tunkhannock.

In the championship bout at 120 pounds, Wyoming Area’s Pat Heck lost a close decision to Warren County’s Terrance Thompson, 9-8. Charlie Johnson picked up a third place finish at 126 by forfeit.

At 132 pounds, Kenny Byer lost a low-scoring match at Princess Anne’s David Tyler, 3-1.

Postponements

Due to the inclement weather from Winter Storm Hercules, a number of local sporting events were postponed from last week. Here is a list of the postponements and their makeup dates:

Wrestling

The Wyoming Valley Conference wrestling tournament at Lake-Lehman was pushed back from Friday and Saturday to Saturday and Sunday. Wrestling will continue today with the semifinals at 1 p.m., medal rounds at 2 p.m. and the finals at 4 p.m.

Boys basketball

Berwick at Pittston Area – Saturday (1/4) at 2 p.m.

Wyoming Area at Nanticoke – Saturday (1/4) at 7:15 p.m.

Girls basketball

Pittston Area at Berwick – Saturday (1/4) at 2 p.m.

Nanticoke at Wyoming Area – Saturday (1/4) at 2:30 p.m.

Swimming

Coughlin at Wyoming Area – TBD

Pittston Area at Dunmore – Monday (1/6) at 4 p.m.
