WILKES-BARRE — Parker Dorsey, of Pittston, was honored with the Outstanding Leadership and Service Award at Wilkes University’s Extracurricular Awards marking the end of the 2019-2020 academic year. It is presented by the Department of Communication Studies. Dorsey majored in communication studies and received his degree on May 16.

Dorsey displayed outstanding leadership within Wilkes University’s Commuciation Studies Department through his work on the student newspaper, The Beacon, Wilkes NOW television show, campus radio station WCLH and Zebra Communications, Wilkes’ student-run public relations agency. His capstone research project used literary critic Kenneth Burke’s Pentad methodology to examine instances of violence within Childish Gambino’s “This is America” music video and how they frame America from the experiences of African-Americans. After graduation, Dorsey plans on attending a graduate studies program.
