WEST PITTSTON — Ellen Quinn started her new four-year term on council on a high note as she was elected council president by her colleagues during a reorganizational meeting this week.

She was elected on a 5-2 vote, with Councilman John Hood and new Councilman Bill Bohn voting no.

Quinn was originally appointed to council in the fall of 2016.

“This is my first elected (term),” Quinn said of starting her four-year assignment. “Now, I feel like I really am part of the council.”

She wants to focus on rental properties by ensuring they’re well taken care of by landlords and tenants, as well as seeking grants for the borough.

She looks forward to working with everyone on council, in the borough and the county.

“I would like to see all of us agree, or disagree, in a civil way, and I think that can be accomplished,” Quinn said. “I think we are on a very positive course for our community, and I would like to see that course continue and work hard with everybody.”

Other elected officials sworn in included Barry Hosier and James Butera, who were also appointed in the fall of 2016. Both were elected to four-year terms in November.

New Councilman Ray Judge was sworn in after being elected to a four-year term and Bohn was sworn in after being elected to a two-year term.

West Pittston Mayor Tom Blaskiewicz was sworn in after being elected to a four-year term. He was appointed in the spring of 2016.

Other notable appointments include Butera as council vice president.

Notable re-appointments include:

• Ellen Riddle as borough council secretary and borough administrative secretary.

• Savino Bonita as borough treasurer and borough manager.

• Attorney Mark Bufalino as borough solicitor.

• Mike Turner as police chief.

• Barry Hosier as emergency management director.

Council members also recognized Hood as chief of West Pittston Hose Co. 1.
