Holy Hour is held every Wednesday from 6 to 7 p. m. followed by the Mass and the novena prayers to St. Joseph and St. Joseph Marello.
The Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is held from 6 to 7 p.m. every Wednesday in the seminary chapel at St. Joseph’s Oblate Seminary. It includes recitation of the Rosary and opportunity for confessions. Holy Mass is celebrated at 7 p.m., followed by Novena prayers to St. Joseph and St. Joseph Marello, founder of the Oblates of St. Joseph religious congregation. A Healing Mass will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30. A musical prelude of Contemporary music will begin at 2:30 p.m. by Ernie Pappa and the Sacred Heart Singers who will also provide music for the Mass. Alcoholics Anonymous meets at 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays in the rectory.
A takeout pasta dinner and canoli sale along with a sauce and meatballs sale will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30. The dinner menu includes salad, bread, pasta, meatballs and dessert. Tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for children ages 3 to 12. The quarts of sauce are $5 each and the quarts of sauce with meatballs are $7 each. The homemade canoli are $3 each.

The Feast of St. Therese of Lisieux is celebrated Monday, Oct. 1. She was known as the “Little Flower” and died of tuberculosis in France at the age of 24. All the faithful will be blessed with her relic at the conclusion of the 7:30 a.m. Mass on Oct. 1. Her relic will be offered for individual veneration after Mass. The Legion of Mary will distribute St. Therese chaplets at the end of the Mass.
The Church celebrates the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi on Thursday, Oct. 4. Fr. Petro will administer a special blessing to all pets at 6 p.m. near the front steps of Sacred Heart Church. Parishioners and friends of our parish are invited to bring their animals to the church to pray for the intercession of the saint who loved nature and all of God’s creatures. To provide a safe environment for all who attend this event, please be sure that all pets are properly restrained
“Fatima Day” devotions to Our Lady of Fatima, Queen of the Rosary, will be held in Sacred Heart Church at 7 p.m. Saturday Oct. 13. The Legion of Mary will sponsor this holy hour which will feature the crowning of the statute of Our Lady of Fatima, adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, and the recitation of the rosary with other prayers.
A Senior Bingo sponsored by our Pastoral Outreach Apostolate will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, October 14 in the church hall. All who are 60 years of age and older are invited. Admission is free. Snacks and token prizes will be given.
The Novena to St. Jude will be prayed in Sacred Heart Church beginning Saturday, Oct. 20, immediately prior to the 4 p.m. Mass and conclude Sunday, Oct. 28, immediately prior to the 10:30 a.m. Mass. During weekdays, the novena prayers will be recited following Mass. Throughout the novena his statue will be placed in the sanctuary and a first class relic of St. Jude will be offered for veneration after each Mass.

A chicken dinner will be held Sunday, Oct. 7. Takes-outs are from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and eat-in is from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Adult dinners include 1/2 chicken, green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy, cole slaw, bread, cake and a drink. Children’s dinners include three chicken tenders, green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy, cole slaw, bread, cake and a drink. Adult meals are $10 and children’s meals are $5. Call the parish office to reserve a spot before Monday, Oct. 1.

A bus pilgrimage to the National Shrine of the Divine Mercy of Faustina in Stockbridge, Massachusetts will be held Friday, Oct. 5. The bus leaves at 7 a.m. from the back section of the parish parking lot. Cost per person is $67 and includes complimentary snack items, water, bus trip, shrine fee, and a full course meal at Bogie’s Restaurant in Barrington, M.A. The estimated time of return is 1 p.m. Contact Cathy Mack at 570-654-6063 for a reservation.
The Harvest Tea will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10 in the Parish Center. This tea raises money for the Msgr. Philip Gay Awards which are presented to high school seniors from St. Maria Goretti Parish. World Youth Day will be held in Panama City, Panama from Jan. 22-27, 2019. World Day is an initiative from St. John Paul II to gather Young Catholics of the world every two to three years in a celebration of faith and culture. The World Youth Day events gather millions, including Pope Francis, young Catholics, clergy, and religious brothers and sisters.
