Usually around this time of the year, I feel very blah. Okay, blah doesn’t really cover it, but yeah, I’ll go with that for now.

Maybe it’s the January/February blues I feel every year, but for some reason, this year is pretty bad. Could all the COVID issues finally be catching up with me? Possibly.

I think if the weather was worse with tons of snow and days of record cold, my current state would be far worse. I’ve said it a million times, I’m NOT a winter person — never was, never will be.

In addition to feeling blah, I feel sad. I can’t explain that latter, and maybe that’s a COVID byproduct too.

In the last month, I’ve had two good friends battle COVID — one made it, one didn’t. For me, the worst part of it is both never received vaccinations.

I’ve been advocating vaccines since the beginning. I’ve been saying we should just go with science and trust those with far more intelligence then myself and probably you too that worked night and day to come up with a viable solution to combat the virus.

People are getting violently ill and dying, mainly from the Delta variant, and it’s all unnecessary.

Look, we put our fate in so many peoples hands on a day to day basis like police officers, firefighters, doctors, nurses, pharmacists, crossing guards and mostly each other. Why not put your fate into the hands of professionals that know more about a virus then us or a politician or skeptics or people that just love to rock the boat?

There are pharmaceutical companies worldwide staking billions and billions of dollars and reputations on the success of a safe vaccine. What would possibly be the reason they would want to harm or sabotage a life?

Because of vaccines, I’ve never had diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, measles, mumps, rubella hepatitis A or B, meningitis and of course polio.

With all of the mentioned above, these vaccines had to be tested, just like the COVID vaccine.

A few weeks ago, I wrote on how billions of doses of the COVID vaccines have been administered worldwide and as a result, thankfully fewer people are dying from Delta.

Luckily for us, Omicron variant seemingly is not as dangerous and is more like flu-like in its symptoms, but on the downside, it’s highly contagious. This is why you hear medical officials saying eventually most of us will get the Omicron variant.

You are seeing a huge rise in COVID and it’s mainly due to Omicron.

It’s very possible you have had flu-like symptoms over the last few weeks and never new it was Omicron and just felt like it was a 24-48 hour-plus flu and never knew it was COVID.

Like any virus, it will peak and there are signs nationwide that Omicron is in fact peaking.

We will always be faced with viruses, whether you believe they were manufactured in a lab or manifested organically and we will get over the current variants of COVID present.

I just can’t stress enough, please: I can’t bear seeing one more friend dying senselessly of COVID because of skepticism or even worse, because of political views.

And maybe I’m sad because I did lose a friend unnecessarily and with many years of life ahead at that.

My friend that did make it out of the hospital after 12 days of being on oxygen is grateful she was able to celebrate another birthday days after she was released from the hospital.

She’s grateful for all the thoughts and prayers sent her way and maybe, just maybe I hope she will rethink her former anti-vaccine stance and eventually get vaccinated.

The said thing is, once you get COVID does not mean you can’t get it again and that’s a very scary proposition.

So do yourself a favor, if not for you, but for your loved ones, get vaccinated.

In the meantime, my winter blues will continue, especially with tricky weather coming in this weekend. I’m hoping for a rain event instead of snow. I know I shouldn’t complain because winter hasn’t been too bad as I said earlier, but if I have to whine about something, whining about winter is far better than being critical of current politics or the price of gas or inflation.

We are two-years from the second anniversary of the pandemic and I’m not sure how quickly people think we should have recovered from one of the largest economic crises not only in the U.S., but worldwide.

The right wants to blame the left, the left wants to blame the right but in all honesty, the entire world was shut down for months and months, Maybe there’s nobody to blame, so maybe we should just clam up on placing blame and just work together on getting out of this mess.

Honestly, I’m so over the division in our country with political or social climate.

Finally, I’d like to wish Hazel and Jim Pepe on their upcoming retirement. The couple closed the doors of their Wyoming businesses, Pepe’s Avenue Video and Crystie’s Gifts and More.

I know Hazel is sad about closing, but everything they did in business for all those decades was to enjoy this time of their life.

Wear retirement in good health and happiness Hazel and Jim and thank you for everything.
