Greater Pittston athletes earn awards at Wyoming Seminary

KINGSTON — Wyoming Seminary Upper School Director of Athletics Karen Klassner recently announced the Most Valuable Players, Coaches’ Awards and Gold Award winners for spring sports.

In boys lacrosse, seniors Connor Switzer, of Harding, and Georgio Vavlas, of Pittston, received Gold Awards. In girls lacrosse, Katherine Romanowski and Alexis Sokach, both of West Pittston, received Gold Awards.

Daughter of former Pittston residents graduates dental school

WAYNE, N.J. — Dr. Nicole C. Viola recently graduated from Rutgers School of Dental Medicine.

Previously, Viola was a graduate of Montclair Kimberly Academy and Boston College, where she was an honor student. While at dental school, she was selected for the Omicron Lappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society and was a recipient of the Edward J. Ill Excellence in Medicine Scholarship.

Viola was a dean’s list honoree throughout her course of study and was selected for the Gamma Pi Dentail Prostudonic Honor Society. She has been selected at Rutgers University to do a post graduate internship.

Viola is the daughter of Michael, formerly of Pittston, and Yong Sun Viola. she is the granddaughter of the late Mike and Rosalie Viola, formerly of Pittston.

Greater Pittston residents inducted into National Honor Society

SCRANTON —Heena Tolani, Duryea, and Ariele Williams, Dupont, were recently inducted into The University of Scranton’s national honor society in psychology (Psi Chi).

Tolani is a senior majoring in psychology and Williams of is a senior majoring in psychology.

Chaump inducted into National Honor Society

SCRANTON — Nicholas Chaump, West Pittston, was among The University of Scranton students inducted into the national honor society for mathematics majors (Pi Mu Epsilon).

Chaump is a junior majoring in electrical engineering at the Jesuit university.

Radle inducted into honor society

SCRANTON — Natalie Radle, Avoca, was among The University of Scranton students inducted into Upsilon Phi Delta, the national honor society for graduate and undergraduate students in healthcare administration programs.

Radle is pursuing a post-graduate degree in health administration.

Homa named to deans list

ANNVILLE — Tanner Homa, Exeter, was recently named to the Lebanon Valley College dean’s list for the 2017 spring semester.

Homa is a Wyoming Area graduate and is pursuing a bachelor of science and bachelor of arts in music education and music.

Gutkowski named to dean’s list

PHILADELPHIA — Michael Gutowski, son of Babe and Jeanne Gutowski, West Avoca, was named to the dean’s list at Temple University’s Fox School of Business for the spring semester.

Gutowski studies Finance and Economics and is a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Golden Key International Honour Society, and Temple Economics Society.
