Chicken sandwich sale is Sept. 17

The Duryea Sons of American Legion will have a chicken sandwich sale from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17.

There are two choices – Buffalo chicken sandwich with choice of sauce and blue cheese or American chicken sandwich with lettuce, tomato and mayo.

Cost is $5 to attend and takeouts are available.

Story hour is Oct. 4

Duryea’s My Little Library will hold story hour at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4 at the borough building, 315 Main St.

The story hour is free and open to readers up to 8th grade reading level and will be on the first Wednesday of each month through April.

Each story hour will have a “celebrity” reader who will read an age appropriate book or excerpt and then give a brief show and tell. October’s celebrity reader will be Duryea’s police chief, Chief Lohman who will read and then talk about safety.

All children up to the 8th grade reading level are invited.

Lions Club Fall Festival is Oct. 21

The Avoca Lions Club and the Duryea Lions Club will hold a Lions Club Falls Festival from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21 at the Germania Hose Company, 430 Foot Ave.

This indoor event will feature various vendors and crafters selling handmade items, food, and there will also be a basket raffle.

Admission and parking are free to this event.

Beer raffle tickets on sale

The Duryea Sons of the American Legion Squadron 585 have begun selling tickets for the annual beer raffle.

Tickets are $3 each or two for $5.

First prize is a $500 gift card to Quality Beverage in Laflin which can be used for anything in the store and no expiration date. Second prize is a $200 gift card to PA Wine & Spirits Shoppes. Third prize is a $50 gift card to Komensky’s market in Duryea. Fourth prize is a $50 gift card to Arturo’s restaurant in Dupont.

Drawing is at 11 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16.

Tickets are available from SAL members or at the legion home.

Work permits required

Residents are reminded that work being done at a home or place of business requires a building permit.

Park rental

Residents interested in renting Healey Playground or Community Park for birthday parties are asked to contact Carolyn Santee, borough manager, at 570-655-2829 ext. 1.

There is a $50, non-refundable, rental fee which covers trash removal after the party.
