Andy Schutz has made a successful return to college wrestling after a year off from the sport.

Schutz is back on the mat at Bloomsburg University for what has turned into an award-winning, redshirt senior season.

The Wyoming Area graduate earned both Eastern Wrestling League and Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Wrestler of the Week honors for Nov. 13-19 after going 3-0 to finish first in the Black Invitational. He finished second at 133 pounds Dec. 9 at the PSAC Wrestling Championships and also was fourth at the Clarion Open.

Bloomsburg competes in the NCAA Division I level in wrestling.

Schutz is in his third season wrestling at Bloomsburg after beginning his college career by ranking second in wins at Seton Hill in 2013-14 when he went 24-11 as a freshman.

Wrestling at 133 all season, Schutz is 4-0 in dual meets and 13-3 overall to improve his career record at Bloomsburg to 47-38.

Schutz was 14-15 and finished third at the PSAC Championships in 2014-15. He was 19-17 in 2015-16 when he led the team in bonus points (additional team points for pins, technical falls and major decisions), took second in the PSAC Championships and pinned nationally ranked Joey Palmer from Oregon State in 1:18 at the Midlands Tournament.

At Wyoming Area, Schutz was a four-time District 2 champion and two-time state tournament qualifier. He won 124 career matches and finished seventh in the state in Class 2A at 126 pounds as a senior in 2013.
