Fall hours will begin Saturday, Sept. 9 and are as follows: Noon to 7 p.m., Monday and Thursday; Closed, Wednesday and Sunday; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. Labor Day weekend hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m,. Saturday, Sept. 1 an closed Monday, Sept. 3.

The Pittston Memorial Library’s 5K run/walk for literacy: Book it Through Pittston in memory of Tom and Dianne Tigue will be Saturday, Sept. 8.. The Third Annual Murder Mystery will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20 at the Gramercy in Pittston. Tickets are $60 per person and can be reserved by calling Noelle at the library.

The Scarecrow Festival will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27. The event includes balloons, face painting, 25-cent carnival games, a bake sale, apple and pumpkin pie contest and voting for your favorite scarecrow.

WEST PITTSTON LIBRARY

The Literary Snoops Book Club now meets at the West Pittston Library at 12:15 p.m. the second Wednesday of each month. Participants are encouraged to bring a bag lunch for the discussion.

Sign up for the WPL Book Club on Facebook. Through this private FB Group, participants will discuss what books they are reading this summer and whether they loved or hated them. Plus, you will gather other great book suggestions that rock. Choose one of the three suggestions each month.

Join reptile enthusiast Greg as he discusses the slow-moving world of tortoises at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 27.

Open sewing and craft workshops will have sewing machines and space for those working on sewing projects of their own. Participants are to bring their own crochet, knitting, embroidery, zentanle, drawing or any other project to work with. These workshops are available from 6 to 7:30 p.m. the following Tuesdays Aug. 28. Call the library to register.

And end-of-summer reading party will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31. Music, refreshments and activities will be included.

The West Pittston Walkers will meet at 9 a.m. every Friday. This group is for exercise and camaraderie as members take strolls throughout the neighborhood.

LAFLIN PUBLIC LIBRARY

The library’s summer hours will be as follows until Aug. 31: 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday; 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday; Closed Sunday and Monday.
