EXETER — Pittston’s Duchess Outlet was the recipient of the 2018 Outstanding Business of the Year Award handed out at the Greater Pittston Chamber of Commerce’s 98th Annual Dinner Meeting held at Fox Hill Country Club on Aug. 23 in front of 200 fellow members of the chamber, family and friends.

“Our annual dinner and our annual outstanding business of the year award is one of our favorite nights,” Michelle Mikitish, chamber vice president/secretary said. “It truly gives us an opportunity to showcase one of our local businesses, one of our members that supports us who we’re so glad to support and to show what a terrific job they are doing.”

Julio Caprari, third generation owner of Duchess Outlet, represented his family in accepting the award for his family.

“It really feels great; it’s exhilarating really and it’s such an honor to be in the same group of business people in this room.” he said. “We’d really like to thank the Chamber of Commerce, the Board of Directors, Michelle and Brandi for all they do for businesses and the community.”

In addition to Julio and his wife present for the ceremony, his parents Paul and Paula Caprari, and his sister Aniell and her husband Ed Nyzio.

“Duchess Outlet is truly the epitome of this outstanding business of the year award,” Mikitish said. “They have been around for many, many years and they are doing several things to become more and more involved in the community.”

In other business, Mikitish talked the upcoming Make My Day 2018 – a bridal and party planning event being held from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26 in downtown Pittston. The event is in conjunction with the City of Pittston.

Make My Day has been touted as a day to “stroll through downtown Pittston to experience everything you need to plan your next big event.” The event is targeted to future brides and parties.

On hand will be merchants in the downtown area to display dresses, tuxedos, flowers, transportation, photographers, hair and makeup, caterers, decorations, pastries, and much more.

The highlight of the day will take place at 3 p.m. at the River Park when Erin and Michael Berlew will renew their wedding vows.

“We are staging all of downtown and downtown stores for a variety of different parties including a 21 and over birthday party at Cooper’s Cabana, a wedding at River Front, and events will be happening all over town,” Mikitish said. “And don’t worry about walking, Parrish Limousines will be driving people around town and Sweet Pepper & the Long Hots will be performing at the Tomato Festival lot.”
