PITTSTON — The Little Miss and Little Mister Pittston Leprechaun contest will be back for its third year as part of the St. Patrick’s Day festivities in the city.

The contest will take place at 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24 in the community room of the Pittston Memorial Library. It is open to the public

According to event planner Sarah Donahue, there are several entries to date and late entrants will be accepted prior to the event for ages 3 to 7. Every child will get a prize for entering and refreshments will be served.

“We’ve modeled this event after the Little Miss and Little Mister Tomato Contest,” Donahue said. “It works out well and we didn’t need to reinvent the wheel.”

Children will be asked questions about St. Patrick’s Day and leprechauns.

Judges will be the reigning Tomato Queen Bianca Mazzarella, as well as Greg Holl, Linda Bartlet, Julie Donahue and Tina Rava.

“It’s super cute even if you don’t have any children in it and it’s fun to watch,” Donahue said. “It’s really entertaining and you’ll get a lot of laughs to see what the children say about leprechauns.”

The winners will ride in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade on March 2.
