PITTSTON — The Friends of the Pittston Memorial Library will celebrate the Annual “Women of the Round Table” event at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 24 in the Cosgrove Room, Broad Street.

The celebration is in honor of National Women’s History Month, which began with a proclamation signed by President James Carter in 1980 celebrating March 8 as Women’s History Week. In 1987, the United States Congress extended the week into a month.

The Friends have adopted the concept of the roundtable to depict women of by gone years as they gathered to exchange stories, laugh cry a little, solve problems, enjoy conversation while sipping a cup of coffee or tea. Today, the round table explores the journey of women as they focus on contributing to everyday living and problem solving in all facets of life.

The theme selected for this year’s event is “My Journey to the Present Day” presented by six women from the community who will relate their personal journeys through life. The presenters are: are: Mayor Denise Adams, Jean Marie Conroy Bantell, Ann Hoyga, Marilyn Krall, Lisa Mazzarella, and Sister Kieran Williams, I.H.M.
