Pittston Area came up with its first District 2 girls soccer playoff victory since 2015 before being eliminated in Saturday’s quarterfinals of the District 2-4 Class 4A Subregional.
Pittston Area 1, Delaware Valley 0
Fifth-seeded Pittston Area won in a penalty kick shootout after the teams were scoreless through regulation and two 15-minute overtimes Thursday in the subregional quarterfinal game hosted by fourth-seeded Delaware Valley.
All five Pittston Area players made their penalty kick attempts while Delaware Valley went 4-for-5.
The Lady Warriors shot first, but lost their advantage when Adriana Wallace stopped their second attempt.
Rebecca Dunn, Alida Gregory, Bella Dessoye, Isabella Pisano and Juliana Menendez all converted for the Lady Patriots.
Since beating Delaware Valley in 2015, Pittston Area had gone 0-6 in first-round playoff games and missed the postseason three times. The Lady Patriots were outscored 36-3 in those six playoff defeats.
Wilkes-Barre Area 5, Pittston Area 1
Pittston Area’s playoff run came to an end Saturday with a loss at top-seeded Wilkes-Barre Area in the subregional semifinal.
