Brooke Hintze won the maximum two individual and two relay events Tuesday when host Pittston Area opened the Wyoming Valley Conference girls swimming season with a 98-46 rout of Nanticoke.
Hintze won the 100-yard freestyle in 1:05.65 and finished 34 seconds ahead of the pack to take the 200 freestyle in 2:22.05. She was also part of wins in the 200 and 400 freestyle relays, capping the meet with a win by more than a minute in the 400 relay.
Maggie Gruber, who sprinted to a win in the 50 freestyle, and Ellie Schardien, who showed the endurance needed to win the 500 freestyle, both joined Hintze on the winning freestyle relays.
Olivia Pantucci won the 200 individual medley and was part of the 400 freestyle win.
Nina Albertelli won the 100 butterfly, and Bailee Staton was the other member of the winning 200 freestyle relay.
Hazleton Area 94, Wyoming Area 82
Hazleton Area won nine of the 11 swimming events, including all three relays, to turn back visiting Wyoming Area.
Ameriana Walker won the 100 freestyle and Bree Harry the 100 backstroke for Wyoming Area.
Walker, Harry, and Emma Kratz went 1-2-3 in the 100 freestyle. Harry and Ella Campenni took the top two spots in the backstroke.
Giana Gallagher finished first in diving.
