Aleah Kranson scored five goals and assisted on two others Thursday as Wyoming Area routed Wyoming Seminary, 10-1, in a Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2 girls soccer game.

Kranson had four goals in the first 29 minutes when Wyoming Area opened a 5-0 lead.

Erica Gallagher added three goals and an assist to help the Lady Warriors improve to 2-1. Caitlin McDonough had a goal and an assist. Amanda McCormick also scored.

Lauren Kelly made 13 saves.

Wyoming Area 0-2

Michael Branley finished ninth, behind the top eight runners from two-time defending state champion Dallas, but Wyoming Area dropped two meets on its home course Thursday to open the WVC season.

The Warriors fell 15-50 to Dallas and 23-32 to Wyoming Seminary.

Nick Katulka was 14th for the Warriors.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Wyoming Area 0-2

An injury and another absence left Wyoming Area short of the required five runners and the Lady Warriors forfeited to Dallas and Wyoming Seminary, 15-50, Thursday.

Aubrianna Marranca was eighth and Gwen Glatz 11th individually in the tri-meet.

GIRLS TENNIS

Holy Redeemer 4, Wyoming Area 1

Brianna Pizzano had the only Wyoming Area win, at first singles, in the Thursday match.

FIELD HOCKEY

Wyoming Area 5, Delaware Valley 4

Lauren Parente scored three goals and Wyoming Area held on for a win in the WVC Division 1 opener.

The Lady Warriors led 4-1 at halftime and went ahead 5-2 when Parente completed her hat trick with 15:49 left in coach Erin McGinley’s first conference game.

Jalen Rhodes had two goals and an assist in the first half. Parente assisted one of her goals. Kayla Kiwak added two assists.

Wyoming Area 3, Berwick 0

Jalen Rhodes scored two goals during the Sept. 2 non-league game.

Lauren Parente scored a goal and assisted on another. Ellie Glatz made three saves.

Wyoming Area 7, GAR 0

Kayla Kiwak scored three times and assisted another goal Sept. 1 to make a winner of Erin McGinley in her head coaching debut.

Lauren Parente scored twice in the non-league game. Jalen Rhodes and Kari Melberger each had a goal and an assist.

Pittston Area 201, Wyoming Valley West 228

Allie Craig shot a 43 at Irem Temple Friday to help Pittston Area improve to 2-4 on the season.

Derek Cunius added a 51.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Holy Redeemer 3, Wyoming Area 0

Holy Redeemer remained unbeaten through three matches by sweeping Wyoming Area, 25-9, 25-7, 25-10.

The Lady Warriors fell to 1-1.

Tunkhannock 3, Pittston Area 2

Tunkhannock rallied past host Pittston Area, 25-27, 20-25, 25-8, 25-23, 15-12, Thursday.

Emma Coles had 19 service points, including three aces, for the Lady Patriots (0-3). Paula Wiedlich added 13 points, six aces and three kills. Emily O’Brien had 10 assists.

Wyoming Area 3, Hanover Area 0

Brandi Sorokin had 14 service points, five aces and five kills Wednesday to lead Wyoming Area to a 25-13, 25-12, 25-18 sweep of Hanover Area.

Jenna Chackan had 19 assists and eight points. Monica Henderson added five aces and three kills.

Nanticoke 3, Pittston Area 0

Nanticoke swept Tuesday’s match, 25-18, 25-18, 25-19.

Emily O’Brien had 21 assists, seven kills, nine service points and two aces for Pittston Area. Elizabeth Charney added 11 digs, six kills and six points.

BOYS SOCCER

Coughlin 10, Wyoming Area 0

Coughlin scored eight first-half goals to ruin Rick Branco’s debut as head coach of the Warriors.

David Cortez scored four goals, including two on free kicks.
