The spring sports schedule continues to take shape, leading up to the beginning of girls lacrosse season late this week.
The Wyoming Valley Conference is scheduled to open Saturday, but the Lakeland at Pittston Area game has been moved up to Friday, making it the conference opener.
Wyoming Area opens Saturday morning at Hazleton Area.
Boys lacrosse is set to open March 25. Wyoming Area hosts Abington Heights that day.
WVC boys tennis begins March 26. The schedule includes Hazleton Area at Pittston Area and Wyoming Area at Tunkhannock.
Baseball, softball and track and field all are scheduled to begin WVC play April 2.
Nanticoke is at Wyoming Area and Pittston Area is at Wyoming Valley West in boys and girls track and field April 2 while the Pittston Area baseball team is at Tunkhannock and the Wyoming Area softball team is at Wyoming Seminary.
The Wyoming Area baseball team is at MMI Prep and the Pittston Area softball team hosts Wyoming Valley West when they begin their WVC schedules April 3.
Moreso than the other two sports season, weather tends to create many changes in the spring schedule for outdoor sports.
Some District 2 championship events are already scheduled.
Boys tennis team play is April 29 and May 1 with preliminary matches, if needed, April 26. The singles tournament is tentatively set for May 6-7 and the doubles for May 10 and 15.
Specific dates have not been set for the track and field championships will be held the week of May 13-17.
NEW COACHES
Wyoming Area has a new junior high softball coach in Kayla Teddei, who was an assistant last season.
Taddei will be assisted by Annie Karcutskie and volunteer Julia Kopetchney.
