Pittston Area played its way into a rematch for the District 2-4 Class 5A Subregional softball championship when Gianna Adams tossed a two-hitter Thursday in an 11-1, five-inning victory over Shikellamy.

The 2022 Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association state champion Lady Patriots (17-1) will face defending champion and 2023 state semifinalist Abington Heights (17-5) for the title Tuesday at Wilkes University at 3 p.m.

Shikellamy scored first on an unearned run in the top of the second, but Pittston Area responded and was able to end the game on the 10-run rule with one out in the bottom of the fifth when Gabby Gorzkowski’s sacrifice fly allowed Marina Antal to score her third run of the game.

Lily Hintze was the only player in the game with two hits and also had the only extra-base hit with a double. She scored one run and drove in another.

Stephenson also had a hit, run and RBI while Antal had a hit and RBI to go with her three runs scored.

Adams went 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI to help support her pitching win. She struck out eight and walked one.

Pittston Area took advantage of seven Shikellamy errors.

The Lady Patriots scored four times in the second, five in the fourth and two in the decisive fifth inning.

Berwick 3, Wyoming Area 0

Makayla Brown struck out seven in a five-hit shutout Tuesday as host Berwick knocked Wyoming Area out of the District 2 Class 4A tournament with the quarterfinal victory.

The Lady Warriors lost their last four games, two by shutout and another in which they scored just one run, and finished the season 10-10.

Allison Layland went 2-for-3 in the loss.

Alexa Gasek was 1-for-1 with a double and a walk. She also limited the Berwick offense to one earned run on six hits and one walk while she was striking out five.

Old Forge 10, Mountain View 0

Karen Sickle threw a three-hit shutout Friday at Marywood University as Old Forge captured the District 2 Class A title.

Sickle walked three and struck out six.

Old Forge (16-6) is scheduled to return to Marywood Tuesday at 4:30 to face Halifax for the District 2-3 Subregional title and a berth in the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class A state tournament. Halifax defeated Greenwood 11-4 for the District 3 title.

The Lady Devils opened the scoring in the bottom of the third inning, added four runs in the fourth, then reached the 10-run rule with five in the fifth.

Ava Arnold led the offense with two hits and two RBI. Meghan Marianelli also had two hits while scoring one run and driving in another.

Lilianna Lenceski and Arianna Davitt each had a hit and scored twice. Sickle had a hit and scored a run.

Old Forge 15, Forest City 0

Host Old Forge needed just three innings to get past winless Forest City in Tuesday’s district semifinal..

Karen Sickle tossed a perfect game with seven strikeouts.

The Lady Devils scored 12 times in the third inning to halt the action.

Kate O’Hearn went 3-for-3 with a double and four RBI to lead a potent attack.

Talia Paragas homered, doubled, drove in three runs and scored two. Danica Pritchyk, who drove in three runs, and Ava Arnold, who scored three, had two hits each.
