Andrea Colon led the way in the pitching circle and in the batters’ box July 7 when Pittston Area rallied past Mountain Top for a 6-3 victory in the District 16 8-10-year-old Little League softball championship game at the Northwest Softball Complex.
The victory gave Pittston Area wins in both the Major Division (10-12-year-olds) and 8-10-year-olds in the same season for the first time ever.
Pittston Area advanced to the Section 5 Tournament, which was scheduled to begin Saturday and continue through Tuesday at Tripp Park in Scranton.
Colon struck out 13 in a complete-game effort in the final.
Mountain Top took a 3-1 lead into the top of the sixth.
Pittston Area scored a run and loaded the bases. Colon came through with an inside-the-park, grand slam.
Nicole Lambert added an RBI single for Pittston Area.
The Section 5 tournament is a double-elimination event consisting of district champions Pittston Area, Back Mountain, North Pocono and Wallenpaupack.
