Wyoming Area will try to continue its perfect season and move closer to a possible first Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association field hockey championship when the Lady Warriors face Wyomissing Tuesday at 4:30 at Lake-Lehman in a first-round Class A game.
Wyomissing (17-5) finished sixth in the District 3-5-6 Class A Subregional and is coming off a 6-0 loss to Newport in the fifth-place game.
Wyoming Area, the Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 and District 2 Class A champion, is 18-0.
Wyomissing began the 16-team subregional as the sixth seed and defeated Littlestown 4-1 before losing to Boiling Springs 6-0. It clinched a top-six finish and state playoff berth with a 2-1 victory over Lancaster Country Day.
The victory over Lancaster Country Day avenged the team’s last regular-season loss, after which it went on a seven-game winning streak.
Wyoming Area finished second in the state in 2022, but did not qualify for last year’s tournament.
A win would advance the team to Saturday’s quarterfinals.
