Brendan Mozeleski surpassed the 2,000-yard rushing mark on the season and led one last late surge by the Old Forge Blue Devils Friday, but it was not enough to overcome a fast start by unbeaten Williams Valley.

The District 11 champion Vikings scored the game’s first 30 points and advanced to the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class A football state quarterfinals with a 44-25 victory at Lehighton.

Mozeleski and Williams Valley’s Dylan Rabuck and Nick Savage all ran for more than 100 yards in the game.

Rabuck, who has run for 2,902 yards on the season, carried 16 times for 168 yards and a touchdown before leaving the game with an ankle injury with 5:52 left in the half.

CLASS 3A

Ivan Balavage ran 37 yards for the game’s first touchdown Friday night to help send Scranton Prep on its way to a 31-28 victory in Class 3A.

The Cavaliers (13-0) won a first-round state tournament game to reach the state quarterfinals for the second straight year.

Balavage, a senior fullback/linebacker from Avoca, is the team’s leading tackler.
