Norwillo -

Pittston Area’s Abby Norwillo placed seventh in a field of 40 during the New Balance Nationals Outdoor Track and Field Championships June 15-17 at North Carolina A&T University in Greensboro.

Norwillo, a 2018 graduate who is headed to the University of Pennsylvania to continue her academic and athletic careers, cleared 12-6 ¼.

Alana Carroll from Averill Park, N.Y. won with 13-6 ¼.

Gennifer Hirata from Fredericksburg, Va. and Mackenzie Horn from Lancaster were the only other pole vaulters to clear 13 feet.

Only five went higher than Norwillo, who was one of eight who went out after making it over 12-6 ¼. Norwillo had missed two vaults at earlier heights to lose a sixth-place tiebreaker to Kaeli Thompson from Warwick, N.Y., but gain a tie-breaker advantage over the others at that height.

Thompson and Norwillo both train at the Hudson Valley Flying Circus in New York State.
