Pittston Area falls twice in Little League state 9-11 softball play

The Pittston Area 9-11-year-old softball all-stars waited through district and sectional tournament play for their first opponent.

After advancing twice unopposed, Pittston Area took the field in a competitive game for the first time July 27 at the Yough Little League in Pittsburgh suburb of West Newton and immediately ran into the eventual state champion.

Pittston Area lost two straight and was eliminated at the state championship tournament.

State champion West Point shut out Pittston Area, 17-0, in the opener to the five-team, double-elimination tournament. Clinton eliminated Pittston Area, 16-5, the next day.

Eden Savoy, Jaelynn Kovac and Tori Stephenson had hits against West Point.

Julia Mehal had two hits and drove in two runs against Clinton. Nina Callahan also had a hit. Stepnson, Abby Kovac and Jaelynn Kovac scored runs.
