PA Field Hockey camp is Aug. 6-10

HUGHESTOWN — The Pittston Area field hockey team will host a summer camp Monday, Aug. 6 to Friday, Aug. 10 for students in grades 2 through 8 at the Primary Center top field, 210 Rock St.

The camp will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. daily and students do not have to be part of the Pittston Area School District to attend.

Players are required to bring their own mouth guard, but all other equipment will be provided.

Avoca/Dupont LL fall registrations are Aug. 7

AVOCA — The Avoca/Dupont Little League will conduct registration for the fall season from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7 at the Little League field.

The league is accepting registrations for coach pitch, minor, and major league players.

The cost is $25 per player. The season normally begins in late August and ends in early October.

If the player participated in the spring season, no residency verification is necessary at registration. If the player has moved or did not play in the spring season, residency verification is required.

Players can also register for fall teeners at the same time. The cost for teeners is $65.

Firefighter Softball Tournament is Aug. 10-12

AVOCA — The Avoca/Dupont Little League will host the annual Avoca Firefighter Softball Tournament from Friday, Aug. 10 through Sunday, Aug. 12.

The league operates the concession stand during the tournament as a fundraiser.

Bocce Ball Tournament is Aug. 11

OLD FORGE — The Third Annual Bocce Ball Tournament benefiting Make-A-Wish® Greater Pennsylvania and West Virginia will be held Saturday, Aug. 11 at Arcaro & Genell’s, 443 S. Main St.

This event is hosted by Walker Law Office. The games will begin at 8 a.m. and run throughout the day.

The cost is $100 per team and includes breakfast, lunch, dinner, beverages and T-shirts. Each team must have four members. There is only room for 24 teams.

The tournament will also feature a basket raffle and door prizes.

Spectators are welcome and may purchase lunch and dinner tickets for $20 a guest.

Tennis clinic is Aug. 13-16

HUGHESTOWN — The Pittston Area girls varsity tennis team will hold a skills clinic for girls in grades 7 and 8 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 13 through Thursday, Aug. 16 at the tennis courts at the Martin Mattei Middle School, 120 New St.

The clinic will be taught by high school coaches and USTA-trained team members.

WA Lacrosse Parents Association meeting Aug. 15

WEST PITTSTON — The WA Lacrosse Parents Association will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday Aug. 15 the Immaculate Conception school building located on Luzerne Avenue.

Plans will be discussed for a recreational corn hole tournament to be held at 11 a.m. Sunday Oct. 7. This will be the association’s largest fund raising event for the upcoming season and will need help from all families if it is going to be successful.

In addition, there are open board positions on the boys side and nominations for those positions will be taken.

An election of officers for the 2018-2019 will take place Wednesday, Aug. 29. This meeting will also serve as a continuation for the corn hole tournament committee updates.

Parents of rising freshman boys and girls interested in playing this year should plan to attend these meetings. Child/parent information to be used will be collected as well.

Miles for Michael is Aug. 18

PITTSTON — The Miles for Michael/ Tomato Festival 5K and Fun Walk will be held Saturday, Aug. 18 with a 10 a.m. start from the Greater Pittston YMCA, Main Street.

Avoca/Dupont LL meeting is Aug. 19

AVOCA — The next monthly meeting for the Avoca/Dupont Little League will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19 at the Little League field.

Among the items to be discussed will be the fall season, as well as the regular league business.

All fall season coaches are required to attend the meeting.

SERVPRO golf tournament is Aug. 27

EXETER — SERVRPRO of Kingston, Pittston City and Wyoming County will host a golf tournament Monday, Aug. 27 at Fox Hill Country Club.

Registration begins at 10 a.m. with a shotgun start of 10 a.m. and a cocktail reception to follow at 3 p.m.

All proceeds reaised will benefit CASA of Luzerne County.

Thomas P. Durkin open is Sept. 1

TAYLOR — The Thomas P. Durkin Memorial Avoca Open will be held Saturday, Sept. 1 with an 8 a.m. shotgun start at Pine Hills Golf Course.

Cost is $90 per golfer which includes course fees, golf cart, cash prizes, and luncheon to follow at the West Side Club. Format is Captain & Mate.

Gibbons Ford of Dickson City will award a new vehicle to the first hole-in-one on a designated hole.
