Three seniors and junior Selena Forlenza return for their third seasons as starters, giving Wyoming Area a promising outlook going into the Wyoming Valley Confererence girls volleyball season.

Middle hitter Brandi Sorokin, outside hitter Hunter Cervenitski and setter Jenna Chackan are the seniors who return to the starting lineup. Forlenza is a middle hitter.

“I expect to have a great season with a better record than the previous year and to make playoffs,” said coach Brian Reese, who guided the Lady Warriors to a 9-8 record last season. “We have the experience and discipline to do so.”

Marissa Kovaleski is another junior who returns to the starting lineup.

Senior Marissa Traglia and junior Alison Lynch are trying to land a starting spot as outside hitter.

Wyoming Area came within two wins of making the District 2-11 Class 3A Subregional playoffs a year ago when it improved by two wins over the 2016 season.

The WVC season opened for some teams Friday and there are additional matches Tuesday. Wyoming Area does not get its conference schedule started until Wednesday when it hosts Hanover Area.
