Friday turned into a good day for Wyoming Area athletic teams.

Before the football team won at night, the golf team picked up a pair of Wyoming Valley Conference wins while the field hockey and boys soccer teams each won non-league openers.

Damien Bronsburg scored two goals and Nick Belles added one Friday afternoon when Wyoming Area opened the boys soccer season with a 3-2, non-league win over Blue Ridge.

The Raiders were 10-2 and tied for first place in the Lackawanna League Division 3 standings a year ago.

Lauren Parente scored four goals and assisted on another Friday when Wyoming Area did not allow a shot or penalty corner while rolling to a win in its non-league opener.

Toni Menichello had two goals and one assist while Kayla Kiwak had a goal and two assists.

Alison Francis scored six goals to lead Dallas to the win in Friday’s WVC Division 1 opener.

Holy Redeemer opened its WVC title defense Friday with a 25-13, 25-13, 25-7 sweep.

Michalie Mazurkivich had six blocks, three kills and two digs in the loss. Emma Coles had six service points, including three aces, along with three kills and two digs. Tiara George had six assists.

Abby Connors and Kaitlyn Connors won straight-set matches at the top two singles spots to lead Pittston Area to a WVC win Wednesday.

Rachel Senese and Izabelle Lewis added a win at second doubles.

Berwick swept doubles to overcome wins by Wyoming Area’s Brianna Pizzano and Bella Scappaticci in the top two singles spots Wednesday.

Brianna Pizzano and Bella Scappaticci posted wins at first and second singles Monday, but it was not enough for Wyoming Area.
