Two-time defending champion Brianna Pizzano is once again the top seed for the District 2 Class 2A girls tennis singles championships, which will begin Monday morning at Kirby Park.

The Wyoming Area junior has a bye into the round of 32 in the 38-player field. She is the only district champion in school history.

The tournament was originally scheduled for Thursday and Friday, but was delayed four days because of weather concerns.

Action begins Friday at 9 a.m. in both the Class 2A event and the District 2-4 Class 3A Subregional.

Four rounds of Class 2A play and three rounds of Class 3A will be conducted to determine the semifinalists for Tuesday’s 1 p.m. round. The finals will be played Tuesday after the semifinals.

Bella Scappaticci, Wyoming Area’s other entry, has a first-round match.

Pittston Area’s Abby Connors and Kaitlyn Connors each have to play in the opening round in Class 3A, which has 22 players.

The doubles championship schedule and seedlings will be finalized following the singles championships. Singles champions advance to the state tournament and are not eligible to compete in doubles.
