Kyle O’Fier got his sophomore season with the Bloomsburg University baseball team off to a fast start.

O’Fier hit a two-run homer in the top of the first inning in the season opener, a 7-2 victory over the University of the Sciences.

The second baseman from Pittston Area added a second home run before the game was over.

Bloomsburg, which is picked by opposing coaches to finish third out of eight teams in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division, is off to a 6-1 start.

O’Fier has started every game. He is batting just .160, but making the most out of his hits with six runs scored, six RBI and three of his four hits for extra bases.

As a freshman, O’Fier played in 50 games, starting 49. He hit six home runs, drove in 33 runs and batted .281.

The Bloomsburg roster also includes Jeremy Zezza, a senior right-handed pitcher from Wyoming Area.

Zezza has not appeared in a game yet this season. During the first three years of his career, he went 2-2 with a save and a 9.00 earned run average in 30 appearances.

In 37 innings, Zezza has struck out 34 and walked 13.
