WYOMING — The Wyoming Free Library’s open door policy brings visitors through its front door from all over the region, the state and even the world.

On a recent busy Saturday afternoon, library director John Roberts took a moment to reflect on the library a community hub, making available to its patrons not just books, but computers, classes, special events and even fellowship.

It is curiosity about all those programs and the growth of the library that brought Liz O’Neill and Lois Tomeks to the library on a recent afternoon.

The two, both from the Allentown area, spend many of their days exploring northeastern Pennsylvania, searching for what they called “hidden gems,” unique and interesting spots at which to spend a few minutes, an hour or an afternoon, coming away with lifetime memories.

When they learned about the borough of Wyoming, about two hours away from home with a treasure trove of opportunities to visit, not just the library, but historic sites and great restaurants, they were compelled to make the trip and were not disappointed.

“Today, Lois and I went to Wyoming, PA. We found the most amazing library,” O’Neill wrote in a Facebook post. “Children’s room painted in Disney characters. An area with comfy chairs for story time or reading.”

O’Neill said in the post she most enjoyed speaking with Roberts, detailing their story.

“It brought back memories of the library in my elementary school. John’s love of the library really showed during our tour,” she said.

O’Neill said the two were treated “like family,” as they made their way through the area.

Tomeks, who turned 95 on Feb. 16 and has traveled much, said the her trip to the library was among her favorite destinations and a treasured memory.
