Tickets on sale for annual dinner dance

PITTSTON — Tickets are now on sale for the annual dinner dance at Gus Gennetti’s in Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday, May 24. Doors open at noon, dinner choice of Prime Rib, Chicken Francaise or Sole w/stuffed Crab Imperial, and music will be provided by George Rittenhouse from 2 to 4 p.m. Cost is $29 and reservations must be made in advance. A few seats remain for a day trip to an “Italian Festival” at Silver Birches on Wednesday, Sept. 13. Cost is $70 which includes a snack upon arrival, wine tasting demonstration, family style dinner, beer, wine and soda from noon to 3 p.m. and entertainment. Membership dues for 2017 are now being accepted. Suggested donation is $5. Members are asked to supply any changes to their information.

Line dancing classes with Sue are held at 10 a.m. every Monday. Exercise classes with Catherine and Ruth are held at 9 a.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Sandi offers chair exercise classes at 11 a.m. Tuesdays and at 9 a.m. Thursdays. There is no charge for these classes.

Ceramic Class with Ann is held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesdays. Bingo with Ron and Amy is held from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Fridays and also from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesdays. Shuffleboard matches are held at 10 a.m. Wednesdays where the men challenge the women. Helen Shannon is the captain. Craft class with Faye is held at 10 a.m. Thursdays. Wii Bowling with John is also offered.

Celebrate 90’s birthdays May 17

EXETER TWP. — A 90’s birthday lunch and celebration will be held Wednesday, May 17.

A staff person from Rep. Karen Boback’s office will be available from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 17.

All May birthdays will be celebrated Friday, May 19.

A Dinner Dance will be held at Genetti’s Best Western in Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday, May 24.

A Memorial Day Celebration, featuring the Jolly Seniors in a program and sing along, will be held from 1 to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 25.

Thurs. May 25, Melissa, LPN from the Meadows will be available at 12:25 p.m. Thursday, May 25 to check blood pressures. The Jolly Seniors will lead a sing along to celebrate Memorial Day at 1 p.m.

The Annual Flea Market and Book Sale will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 3. Vendors are being seeked for this event. All vendors will be outside in assigned space and the cost to participate is $10. Vendors must provide their own table and chairs. The center will accept small items to sell, but no big furniture or clothes. All items must be in working condition. The Falls Lions Club will be selling food inside.

Weekly activities: On Mondays there will be nutrition talks at lunch, followed by bingo. On Tuesdays craft club will meet from 10 a.m. to noon, brain games will be played at lunch and Geri-Fit will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. On Wednesdays coffee club meets from 10 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. On Thursdays Japanese exercise is held at 11:30 a.m. and bingo follows lunch. On Fridays a geocaching activity takes place from 9 a.m. to noon, followed by Geri-Fit from 12:30 p.m. until 1:15 p.m.

ST. JOSEPH SENIOR SOCIAL CLUB

Club meeting May 18

PITTSTON — The monthly meeting will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, May 18, Mt. Carmel Center, 241 William St., Pittston. New members are always welcome; the only requirement is an age of 55 or older. Membership dues for 2017 will be collected after the meeting. Hostesses for this month are Emily Gorski, Ruth Kimmel, Dorthy Manganaro and Claire LaMarca. Hostesses should arrive at 12:30 pm to help set up and stay later to help clean. Please bring staples for donation to St. John’s Pantry.

This year our picnic will be Wednesday, July 19, at Checkboard Inn, 385 Carverton Road, Trucksville. Be prepared to pay a deposit. Details will be finalized at the May meeting.

COSMOPOLITAN SENIORS

Next meeting May 23

EXETER — The organization’s next meeting is scheduled for 1 p.m. May 23 at St. Anthony’s Parish Center, 28 Memorial St., Exeter. Host and hostesses are: Rose Mary Golenski, Kay Haddock, Johanna Malinowski and Vic Malinowski.

Rev. Michael Finn celebrated the Club’s 42nd Anniversary Mass in St. Anthony’s Church on May 2, followed by Rose Mary Golenski crowning the statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The club members then moved to the parish center for a dinner and party hosted by Table 7. Later Bingo was played. Shirley Mellow won the special game prize and Johanna Malinowski and Lucy Pogceski shared the jackpot prize.

Club membership is open to anyone age 50 and over. Members do not have to be residents of Exeter.

There will be bus trips to Bethlehem Sands Casino May 11 and June 22. There will be a bus trip to Hollywood Casino in Grantville on July 19. Membership is not required for trips. For more information, call 570-655-2720 and ask for Johanna Malinowski.
