March 2005

Boylan’s took down the Untouchables, 60-42, to win the Greater Pittston YMCA Adult Men’s Basketball League title.

Jim Dessoye led Boylan’s with 14 points, while Tony Kravitz added 12. Jason Piecynski led the Untouchables with 18 points. Boylan’s finished the season undefeated.

March 1995

The Pittston Area eighth grade boys basketball team won the Wyoming Valley West Side league with an 18-4 record. They beat Berwick, 53-49, in a special playoff game.

Members of the Pittston Area team were: Matt Rivera, Scott Balchune, Kris Manik, Joe Malosh, John Joyce, Tony Pasquarello, Chris Maida, George LoPresto, A.J. Sarti, Tommy Wysokinski, Dave Hudzinski, Mike Colarusso, Brian Mulhern, Eric Kovak, Alan Hanczyc, A.J. Oliveri, Tony Kravitz, Eric Sperazza, Joe Mudlock, Mike Walsh and Jeff Guasto.

The team was coached by Tony Burns.

March 1985

Wyoming Area quarterback Leo Malsky, who led the Warriors to an 11-2 mark in 1984 and a Wyoming Valley Conference championship, announced he will attend Bucknell University.

Malsky was named All-Scholastic and All-Academic and was nominated for the Big 33 games. Malsky was named the team’s Most Valuable Player in 1984 and received the Carmello Falcone Award.

March 1965

Duryea native Frank “Shirtsy” Deluga bowled a 783 series at the LeMar Parkway, East Patterson, New Jersey, including a 300 game.

Deluga’s 783 set an all-time scoring record not only in his Bendix Major League, but also at the high LeMar Parkway lanes, The previous high was 771.

Deluga bowled just one night a week back then, making his feat more impressive. At the time, he carried a 213 average.
