Council member Eileen Cipriani recently called the PAWC (Pennsylvania American Water Company) looking for an explanation as to why the company was pave cutting and digging into the trenches on West Brady Street.
Cipriani explained that the street was paved at the end of 2013, and that the water company had failed to adhere to the PA-One System rules which state that utility companies must contact the municipality where they will be working at least three days prior to the excavation. Cipriani added that streets which have been paved within the past three years cannot be worked on, except in the case of an emergency.
Jim Hoover, Superintendent of Field services for PAWC, responded at the Jan. 12 borough council meeting, stating that West Brady Street was next on PAWC’s list of repairs to replace two main breaks – one from 1908 and the other from 1924. He said that his company was unaware the street had recently been paved, calling the incident a case of miscommunication. Work will continue in the spring and Hoover said his company will compensatethe borough for any damage done to the street or adjacent homes.
