WEST PITTSTON — The following events are for children at the West Pittston Library:
The Battle of the Books event will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24. Answer: This is a great way to get the whole family involved and strut your book stuff. Question: What is Battle of the Books? Sign everyone up to take on this trivia challenge based on all the popular books from “Goodnight Moon,” “Curious George” and “Elephant and Piggy” to “Magic Tree House,” “Harry Potter,” “Twilight” and “Hunger Games.” Call to register.
A Mardi Gras Carnival will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17. This jamboree will be filled with jazz music while the kids create their own masks and beaded necklaces, decorate their own parade float, play musical king crowns, throw beads and sample some New Orleans cuisine. We’ll end the program with a parade of floats! Every participant is required to bring their own shoe box. Call to register.
Pamper Me Pretty will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24. Rejuvenate your skin with a natural brown sugar hand scrub and concoct a soothing facial mask to take home. We’ll play spin the (nail polish) bottle, have a hand-squeeze race, apply makeup blindfolded and take the M&M challenge, because who doesn’t love chocolate?
Weekly Story Time is held at 1 p.m. every Friday. Register by Wednesday of each week. Registration is required for this free program.
LibLab is held at 6 p.m. monthly on Tuesdays. The Library Laboratory is back to engage children ages 9 and up in science-based, hands-on learning activities. Measure, mix, compare, experiment and test in a fun environment. Class size is limited so sign up early. Supply list available at sign-up.
Extreme Rainbow Loom Designs will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesdays. These advanced techniques are for skilled loomers only. All participants must supply their own loom, rubber bands, hook and c-clips. Registration is required for this free program.
The following classes are for adults:
An iPad instruction class will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 17. Cost is $10. In this beginner course we will learn the following: how to arrange icons, iPad maintenance, venturing online and email basics.
The Garden Village Yarners: Learn to Arm Knit will meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20 and 27. Join our very own Summer Belles for this two-session class to create an infinity scarf out of chunky yarn with just your arm. Bring two skeins of yarn of your choice and, remember, the chunkier the better.
A program called “Searching for Quality Information on the Internet” will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22. Did you know it only takes five seconds to check the status of a flight? Come in from shoveling and wondering what frostbite looks like? This program offers tips and tricks to finding correct information online as well as little-known uses for popular search engines. We’ll also highlight the library’s online search tools and databases.
Cutting Edge Interviews will be help at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28. Learn how the powerful principles of etiquette can help you shine through the interview process. Jill Kryston of Defining Manners will offer tips and old fashioned advice that will help you in today’s workforce.
A program called “A Beer a Day Keeps the Doctor Away!” will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29. Join local author and oncologist Carol Westbrook as she explains the benefits, yes, benefits of imbibing. She will highlight certain health benefits of beer as well as discuss her book, To Your Health. Beer will be served – prost. Must be 21 or older to attend.

Bringing Good Beer & Good People Together with Bil Corcoran will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4. Join Bil Corcoran, blogger of ever-popular mybeerbuzz.com and host of WILK’s award-winning “Friday BeerBuzz,” as he talks about the joys of craft brewing. Whether you are new to craft brewing or a seasoned brewer, there is an amazing energy in the craft beer world that Bil is happy to discuss. He’ll be happy to answer your questions & beer samples will be offered. Must be 21 or older to attend.
A program called “Home Design Trends for 2015” will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19. Join Jack Wise Interiors as they discuss the hottest design trends for the home. They’ll also introduce the Pantone color of the year and how to use it in your own home decorating.
Painting Wine-Handed will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27. Cost is $20. Wilkes University’s art department faculty, Lisa Reynolds, will help you unleash your inner VanGogh (without the loss of your ear). Enjoy painting, cheese and crackers as well as wine while you create your very own work of art. Never painted before? Lisa will take the fear and intimidation out of painting, but we’ll also have some “liquid courage” as backup. Bring your own smock & great attitude. Just be careful not to dip your brush in your wineglass. Participants must be 21 or older.
