May 2005

Pittston Area baseball’s Joe Hines fired a complete game and received the Andy Ashby Most Valuable Player trophy as the Patriots beat the Warriors, 6-2.

George Dructor, who was Hines’ designated hitter, lined a two-out, two-run double in the Patriots’ three-run fourth to get the win. Hines struck out four batters in the game and walked three.

May 1995

Pittston Area’s Adham Rahman got his 100th kill of the season in a sweep over Wyoming Area in boys volleyball action. Game scores were 15-3 and 15-7.

The Patriots finished the regular season at 10-2, third-best in the Wyoming Valley Conference. Rahman came into the match needing three kills for his 100th.

May 1985

Pittston Area’s boys track and field team captured its sixth straight PIAA District 2 championship with an 11.5 point victory over Valley View.

The Patriots copped medals in two of the three relay races and three top individual honors. Joe Spiccioli won the triple jump with a leap of 43-13, while Jou Harashinski won the 300 intermediate hurdles in 40.7. Joe Kravitz captured first in the 800 run with a time of 2:00.1.

May 1975

The Little G Lounge, Pittston, entered in the River Regata and set a new record in the annual race with a time of one hour and 10 minutes, 35 minutes ahead of the previous record.

Ed Piechota, Don Redington, Joe Sciandra and Rick Murphy, all of Pittston, were the winning racers. Charles Giarrantano, also from Pittston, was the designer and sponsor of the raft. The crew also won for most attractive raft.
