EXETER— The Wyoming Area Science Olympiad middle school team earned a first place overall finish in the Northeast Regional Science Olympiad Competition held at Penn State Wilkes-Barre campus on March 11. As a team, they earned medals in 14 out of 23 events including six gold, three silver, three bronze, and two fourth place awards.
The team is coached by head coach, Mr. Grivensky, assistant coach Mrs. Wall, and science teachers, Mr. Hanczyc, Mrs. Kearns, Mr. Pizano, Mrs. Roman, Mr. Rutkoski, and Mr. Williams.
Students who earned medals in their categories include Kaleigh Shission and Cara Yorina, first place in Air Trajectory; Nick Perry and Cara Yorina, first place in Bottle Rocket; Gwen Glatz and Bayli Grossi, first place in Can’t Judge a Powder by Its Color; Gwen Glatz and Kristi Skok, first place in Disease Detectives; Nate Cable and Cara Yorina, first place in Elastic Launched Glider; Bayli Grossi and Jeremy Harman, first place in Write it – Do it; Gwen Glatz and Bayli Grossi, second place in Crime Busters; Nate Cable, Ellie Glatz, and Melanie Lombardo, second place in Picture This; Justine Buczynski and Mike Remley, second place in Wheeled Vehicle; Gwen Glatz and Kristi Skok, third place in Bio-Process Lab; Nick Perry and Mike Remley, third place in Bridge Building; Ben Klaproth and Jeremy Harman, third place in Road Scholar; Justine Buczynski and Nick Remley, fourth place in Crave the Wave; Kaleigh Shission and Mike Abromovage, fourth place in Dynamic Planet; Justine Buczynski and Ellie Glatz, fifth place in Green Generation; Luke Coolbaugh and Jeremy Harman, fifth place in Solar System.
