PITTSTON TWP. — Concerns from residents of Pittston Township’s Glendale Road, off of Route 502, over responses from emergency service providers have been addressed by Luzerne County 911 at a supervisors’ meeting Monday.
A change to address listings was spurned by concerns for potential response delays from county emergency services providers.
A fire on that road in mid-January destroyed a home and took the lives of three pet dogs and one cat. Initial 9-1-1 calls from neighbors were routed at first to a fire department in nearby Moosic, in Lackawanna County given that this particular section of Pittston Township is situated close to the border between Lackawanna and Luzerne counties.
Although the call was then quickly rerouted to the proper Pittston fire fighters, residents at the time stated that they remained worried over the chances that some similar mixup might lead to a fatal delay.
Recent changes to the numerical listings of homes in that area should prevent such a delay from happening. Going forward, all residences will have distinct numbers as opposed to overall private developments having numbers with each individual building within the development being lettered.
The announcement of the change was made during Monday night’s regular board of supervisors meeting where officials commented that the problem remains for parts of Suscon Road.
911 services will again be contacted to see what other changes could be made.
In other matters, the public was reminded that twice monthly yard waste collection services will begin May 12.
Yard waste will be collected on the first and third Monday of each month for residents in, Upper and Lower Browntown; Cork Lane, including Tedrick and Market Streets west of the Bypass; Stauffer Heights; Center Street; Laurel Street; Doty Street; Mill Street, Horizon Estates; Stauffer Point.
It will be collected on the second and fourth Monday of each month for residents in, Butler Heights; Highway 315, Suscon Road; Langans Road; Pocono Ridge Estates; Houston City; Glendale; Route 502; Quail Hill.
The next Pittston Township regular board of supervisors meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Monday May 18.
