PITTSTON TWP. — They split on the ice, but Wyoming Area and Pittston Area contributed to a worthy cause.
The 16th annual Blue ‘n’ Gold games were held Friday night at Revolution Ice Center in Pittston Township. The games benefited Joey Fushon, a sixth-grader at the Pittston Area Intermediate Center who was diagnosed with Ostersarcoma in his left leg in March of 2013.
The games raised approximately $1,700 for Frushon.
Wyoming Area took the Junior Varsity Stick game, 10-2, for the first time in four years. Pittston Area capitalized in the Varsity Skate game with an 8-4 win over the Warriors. The Patriots now have won the varsity trophy three consecutive years.
In a game that went back and forth most of the way, Pittston Area used a two-headed attack with seniors Jerry Scatena and Tyler Uravage. Scatena finished the game with eight points, while Uravage had four.
“It was a crowd-pleaser,” Pittston Area coach Mike Langdon said. “It was better than the arena game.”
Each year, the team’s booster clubs pick a beneficiary for the games. Last year, Wyoming Area’s Katelyn Norton was the game’s beneficiary. Norton was battling cancer.
