PHILADELPHIA — Temple junior Brandon Matthews was recently named the American Athletic Conference Golf Player of the Week for the second time this season. Matthews also was named the conference’s Golf Player of the Month for the month of October.

The 2010 Pittston Area graduate and Dupont native saw his streak of three tournament titles come to an end at the Wolfpack Spring Open, but the Owl standout still tied for third with a three-under 139 at the tournament held on the Lonnie Pool Golf Course on the campus of North Carolina State. Matthews shot a four-under 67 to move up from a 16th-place tie on the final day.

Matthews, who is ranked 37th in the nation by Golfstat.com, currently owns a 70.8 stroke per round average for the season.
