Dr. Michael Garzella, superintendent of the Pittston Area School District, has announced that final registration of students who plan on attending kindergarten for the 2015-16 school year will take place on Monday, May 11. All students must be 5 years old by Aug. 31.
Registration hours will be from 9 to 11 a.m. and from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Pittston Area Primary Center, Rock Street, Hughestown.
A parent or guardian must bring the student to the Primary Center during the registration period on May 11. During kindergarten registration, in addition to having all necessary data collected and entered, each child will receive a hearing screening. All children will have to have proof of immunizations required by the state Department of Health. Children will also receive a Reading Readiness Assessment, which is an assessment of pre-reading skills, consisting of two parts: identifying letters of the alphabet and phonemic awareness assessment.
Parents can save up to 30 minutes on registration day by pre-registering prior to registration days by downloading a registration packet that can be obtained from the school’s website at www.pittstonarea.com or by picking up a packet at any district building. Completed registration packets and copies of required documentation must be returned to any district building by Wednesday May 6. For more information, call the main office at 570-655-3785, ext. 4 during school hours.
