YATESVILLE — Pittston Area girls basketball player Liz Waleski signed her letter of intent on Friday to continue her basketball career at Misericordia University this fall.
Waleski, the daughter of Stan and Janice Waleski, Avoca, has won three straight Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association District 2 championships — track and field in the spring of 2014, soccer in the fall of 2014 and basketball this past spring. She scored her 1,000th career basketball point this past season and started 101 straight games under coach Kathy Healey.
“It’s been really cool because the first one was the track championship and no one has done that since 1988,” Waleski said. “Soccer was big because we moved up in a division and it’s a nice feeling to be recognized as girls.”
Waleski was named the Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 Co-Player of the Year this past season and averaged 14.6 points per game. Pittston Area finished this past season 22-4 and advanced to the PIAA tournament. The Class AAAA district championship was the first in school history.
The Pittston Area senior will be playing under coach Allison Kern and studying physical therapy at Misericordia. She’s excited to continue her career and play with new teammates.
“I’m looking forward to playing with new people,” she said. “It will be nice to get on the court and meet my new teammates.”
At Pittston Area, Waleski is an Honors with Distinction student and a member of the National Honor Society. She is also a member of the Telecommunications Club, Zero Conflict Club and Student Government.
