WRIGHT TWP. – Senior Josh John swept all three sprints for the first time in his career Friday afternoon, leading Pittston Area to a 109-41 romp over host Crestwood in a Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 track meet.
John won the 100-, 200- and 400-meter dashes and the Patriots took 15 of the 18 events on the way to evening their division record at 2-2.
“The 400 is my favorite,” said John, who started out running the 800 and 400 as a freshman before concentrating on sprints. “I feel like I have more endurance.”
John won the 400 in 54.1 seconds Friday.
Mike Havrilla won the 1600- and 3200-meter runs after anchoring a victory in the 3200 relay.
Colin Tracy won both hurdles, leading a 1-2-3 finish by the Patriots in the 300.
Pat Mitchell led a sweep of the shot put, winning by more than six feet, and also took the discus.
Pittston Area outscored Crestwood, 26-1, in the throws with the help of a javelin victory by Eann McCloe.
Pittston Area girls 108 ½, Crestwood 41 ½
Sydney Williams and Jamie Chisdock each won two individual events and were part of the winning 400-meter relay team Friday when Pittston Area remained unbeaten in Division 1 with a 108 ½ – 41 ½ win at Crestwood.
Williams won the 100 hurdles and long jump while finishing second in the triple jump behind Olivia Giambra. Williams edged Giambra by two inches in the long jump.
Chisdock won the 100- and 200-meter dashes.
Giambra, Samantha Mayers and Liz Waleski each won one individual event and contributed to a relay win.
Allie Barber was on two winning relays.
Abby Norwillo matched her own school record while winning the pole vault at 9-6.
The Patriots swept the top three places in the 100 hurdles, triple jump, long jump and shot put.
Kayla Hogan and Ashton Ashby followed Williams in the hurdles. Abby Sheerer was third in the triple and Norwillo was third in the long. Iana Davis, Jennifer Nickas and Marley O’Brien were 1-2-3 in the shot.
Pittston Area improved to 4-0. Dallas is the only other unbeaten in the division at 3-0.
Wyoming Valley West boys 83, Pittston Area 67
Pittston Area dropped its first WVC meet of the week, losing at home to Wyoming Valley West, 83-67, Tuesday.
Mike Havrilla won the 800, 1600 and 3200 for the Patriots.
Pittston Area girls 134, Wyoming Valley West 16
Olivia Giambra won the long jump and triple jump while placing second in the high jump Tuesday when Pittston Area routed Wyoming Valley West, 134-16.
The Patriots won 17 of 18 events.
Wyoming Area boys 108, Meyers 42
Wyoming Area boys 131 ½, Holy Redeemer 18 ½
Nico Vasquez and Ryan Murray each won two individual events Wednesday when Wyoming Area defeated both Meyers (108-42) and Holy Redeemer (131 ½-18 ½) to remain undefeated in Division 2 of the WVC.
The wins left the Warriors tied for first place in the division at 4-0 and set up a showdown Wednesday at Northwest to decide the division lead.

Wyoming Area girls 119, Meyers 31
Bree Bednarski, Marcyssa Brown and Jillian Spak all won multiple events Wednesday to help Wyoming Area remain unbeaten in Division 2 by beating defending champion Holy Redeemer (83-67) and Meyers (119-31) in a double dual.
The Warriors are 4-0 to share the division lead with Lake-Lehman. They are at third-place Northwest (3-1) Wednesday.
Icebreaker Relays
The Pittston Area girls won their third straight title at the Icebreaker Relays, which were held April 11 at Wallenpaupack.
The Patriots won three of seven events on the track and had first- and two second-place finishes in field events where two the results of two teammates are added together.
Pittston Area won the 400 relay, 400 shuttle hurdles relay, middle distance medley relay and javelin.
The best finish by the boys was a second in the javelin.
