AVOCA — Avoca residents are reminded that burning, ignition and combustion of rubbish, garbage or any other materials within the Borough is banned with certain specific controlled exceptions.

Exceptions include any standard commercially designed, non-combustible grill or fire pit. The only permitted burning material for either of these shall be either properly seasoned cord wood, charcoal or commercially controlled propane gas for grills only.

Any fire pit shall be constructed and operated in a safe manner and shall not be located closer than 20 feet to any building, structure or property line.

Grass and weeds restrictions

Avoca residents are reminded it is unlawful for any person owning or occupying any property, vacant or not, within the Borough of Avoca to permit any grass, weeds or any vegetation whatsoever, not edible or planted for some useful or ornamental purpose, to grow or remain upon such premises so as to exceed a height of 12 inches.

Dogs must not run at large

It is unlawful for dogs to run, disturb the peace, injure any human or any other domestic animal or create a nuisance in Avoca Borough. It is also unlawful to keep more than three dogs, nine months of age or older on any premises regardless of the number of owners.

Driveway ordinance

Residents are reminded of the driveway/curb-cut ordinance. Any person, owner, and/or contractor shall, prior to obtaining a driveway permit, file an application supplied by the engineer, reflecting the location of the driveway relative to the premises and designating the course, grade, structure, material and drainage facilities, which would include, but not be limited to, plastic, smooth bore pipe, the width of the driveway plus three feet on each side, involved in the construction of the driveway.

The engineer shall determine if the proposed method of construction or making of said connection will minimize the adverse affect of storm water run-off resulting from said connection, not cause damage to the road to which the driveway is to be connected and not create or increase hazardous driving conditions for those persons using the road to which the driveway is to be connected. All construction in any way incidental to the installation of the driveway shall be performed in strict conformance with the approved plans.
